Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

What type of edit do I need?

A: I offer two types of editing:

1. Copy Editing – The editor works with a complete manuscript to edit line by line for grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. This form of editing does not make tone and content suggestions.

2. Proofreading – The editor will look at the final product after all layout is completed and fix anything out of the ordinary that may have been missed in the original copy editing processes.

Read my blog on the types of editing to learn more.

I do not do developmental editing at the moment. This is the type of editing where you hand me a rough draft or unfinished product and I make suggestions to help develop your original story. However, I may make suggestions that are pertinent to the story if I see plot holes or inconsistencies. The earliest stage I will take over is after the story is written and you are beginning to think seriously about publishing.

We will discuss this through our initial emails, and whatever editing style you choose will be presented in the contract.

What genres do you edit?

I will edit all genres and non-fiction. I have more experience reading and editing science fiction, mysteries, and romance. If your book centers around specific subject matter, please feel free to send me a sample chapter to review. I will do my best to give you an honest reply with any concerns I may have about my ability to edit your material.

How does payment work?

I will send you a PayPal invoice, or I will take checks if that is more comfortable for you.

Will you do a trial edit?

Absolutely! I want us both to be confident we’re the right partners for each other. If you send me a sample chapter (usually your first chapter), I’ll send a trial edit back in a few days.

What if I need to back of a project or change the type of edit I want?

My editing contract lays out the parameters of the project. Here is an example of my contract. Upon negotiation, I will present a modified and personalized version of this
contract to you before beginning your book for both of our protection. I believe in taking care of myself and my authors!

Let’s build something great together.
